What is the Heart of New Jersey Chorus?

The award-winning Heart of New Jersey Chorus, a chapter of Sweet Adelines International, is a chorus of female singers ranging in age from their late teens to 70+.  Members are largely from Central Jersey, although all are welcome and some drive from as far as Staten Island and Brooklyn!  Members come from all walks of life, including: RNs, veterinarians, R&D, CPAs, business owners, banking and advertising experts, librarians, homemakers, students, teachers, retirees, retail, you name it!  What brings us together is our mutual love of singing and ringing chords, sharing friendship and harmony (pun definitely intended).

We would love to!  From Gershwin to Gospel, Show Tunes to Swing, and Ballads to Boogie, the chorus provides entertainment by performing  at civic events, for charities, private parties, and at our annual show.  Please contact us at HONJ.Bookings@gmail com for more information.

What is Sweet Adelines?

"Sweet Adelines International is a worldwide organization of women singers committed to advancing the musical art form of barbershop harmony through education, competition, and performance."  The barbershop style of music is sung in a capella in four part harmony.  We are a non-profit organization of tens of thousands of woman singers spread across five continents.

Why Do We Compete?

Heart of New Jersey is a registered not-for-profit organization.  We are a member of the Greater New York/New Jersey Region #15 of Sweet Adelines International.  Every spring, dozens of choruses compete.  There is a quartet competition as well.  The purpose of competition is to focus on how well the choruses are preserving the barbershop art form.  Each chorus receives feedback from the judges on how well they are capturing the sound, showmanship, and artistry of the art form.  The first place chorus and quartet go on to an international competition one year later.  The international competition is in a different city every year.  Competition is also an exciting opportunity to have fun, show off our talents, and to get together to appreciate the outstanding abilities of our sister choruses.
